To begin, everyone here was very polite and courteous. No issues at all with how I was treated or anything.

My issue is that I brought my car in for a possible head-gasket failure. They took a look at my car and suggested that it might be a head gasket issue but they would need to change the thermostat first to see if that would resolve it. I okayed the repair, assuming that this was the best way to figure out if there was actually a head gasket issue.

Fast forward a week or two later when my car starting doing the same thing as before the repair. This time I brought my car to a local mechanic who performed some sort of test to check for hydrocarbons in the cooling system (a block test I think?). He confirmed that there were hydrocarbons in my cooling system which is a definitive sign of a blown head gasket.

My question is why I was never offered a block test when I brought my car in? The mechanic at Metro Honda seemed stumped and acted like the only way to tell if my head gasket was blown was by trial and error. If the thermostat replacement didn't work, that might mean a blown head gasket. I'm now out over $200 for a repair I never needed because the mechanics here never offered to do a simple test which could actually diagnose my problem.
